I am getting so excited for this drama I can barely contain my wicked glee. Why wicked you ask? Because I can already tell that this is going to be an epic melofest of awesomeness. The type of drama that you watch while sipping wine (or in my case, Diet Pepsi) from crystal decanters with all your kbesties. All the while, trying to guess what makjang trope they will trot out next (in only the best way of course).
Just from the trailer we can deduce multiple cliches right off the bat. For example, let's discuss the Doppelganger situation. As i was typing this post I started to mentally count how many kdramas have mysterious doppelganger plot lines hidden (OK, not so hidden) within the story. Within seconds I could count 5 shows from the last year or so. Needless to say, this is a common storyline. One which would concern me if we did not see that one of the women dies right away.
Because it just does not make any sense at all that one would not take the place of the more affluent look a like. Especially if the poor plucky girl was hounded by a harsh reality that included loan sharks and menial jobs. In Korean dramas, if you are in doubt of what direction to go, always choose the road that is paved in gold. And if a uber hot sexy husband comes along with the deal, then you just have to suffer through it.
To win the love of that uber hot sexy husband to be, make sure you either get sick and require a piggy back ride. Or if you are rich and sophisticated (rich people have fancy cars to take one to the hospital so do not require the use of a man's back as transportation), simply puke on him. Rich, moody, hot men appear to love being puked on. It somehow kicks in their dormant love gene.
All joking aside, this drama is going to be so much fun to watch. The over the top music, the rich elegance. Even the filming style of the drama teaser screams posh. So grab your decanters and your Korean face masks and get ready for some guilty pleasure.
Mask begins airing May 27th following "The Girl Who Sees Smells".
