After securing a broadcasting rights deal to broadcast Netflix series on television in South Africa and through the rest of the African continent, M-Net has now acquired the rights for content from a second internet over the top (OTT) player - Amazon.

Transparent, a highly acclaimed new series for amazon.com from Amazon Studios will be seen in South Africa thanks to M-Net which acquired the broadcasting rights for the show which won two Golden Globe awards.

South African viewers are not able to watch or stream Transparent from amazon.com - similar to Netflix's video-on-demand (VOD) service which is not yet available in South Africa.

M-Net which has acquired the rights to Netflix shows like the similarly award-winning House of Cards, has now done the same with Amazon, to broadcast content viewers would not otherwise have seen.

"M-Net can confirm that Transparent, the winner in the category for best series: comedy or musical [at the 2015 Golden Globes] will be screened on M-Net Edge (DStv 102) this winter," says M-Net in a statement.

The first season of Transparent has 10 half hour episodes and revolves around a Los Angeles family whose transgendered father Mort (Jeffrey Tambor) decides to start living as a woman.
